Yeah, yeah, yeah, so the Denver Broncos destroyed the Carolina Panthers at Superbowl 50, but at least we Seahawk fans have the not-to-distant memory of what it felt like to crush them little "hee-haws" on the field. I even remember when they had fireworks at the Space Needle in Seattle after that victory! (Watch the video if you want to see them!)

I have lived in Washington State since 2002 but I had never gone to the Space Needle as a tourist. It has long since been a treasured landmark in the heart of downtown Seattle, and notorious for the long wait times for the elevator. Yeesh!

Despite the wait, I have heard that it is worth it to go up to the Observation Deck, at least just once in your lifetime, so during the early part of last summer, I took the plunge and plunked down the dough to take my 4-year old daughter and I on a ride up the Space Needle.

As we delighted in the views of Seattle on the elevator, I told her how the Space Needle was built for the World's State Fair back in the olden days (like she even understood what that meant).

Once up at the top, we walked around the deck a couple of times and played with the interactive touch screen exhibits. It was very crowded, but I loved the fact that I could hear people speaking many different languages--we were all tourists here. I was lucky that when it was time to leave, the elevator lines were hardly long at all, but my daughter kept yelling about going to the bathroom so we ended up missing our first chance in line. FUDGE!

To celebrate surviving my first trip to the Space Needle with a four year old, I bought myself one of those fancy flasks in the gift shop!
