I used to be a huge fan of awards shows. Over the years, though, our TV sets have been overwhelmed with TOO MANY new awards shows, so I have lost interest in 99 percent of them. But this Sunday, I am looking forward to seeing The Chainsmokers perform on the 2016 MTV VMAs!

I lived for the Oscars, the Emmys, the Billboard Music Awards, the BET Awards and of course, the MTV VMAs, which are this Sunday at 9 p.m.

I was lucky enough to go to the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, and I even got to attend the BET Awards in Miami around the time of my 31st birthday! I got to attend private after parties, got free drinks from people in pool cabanas, and I got to dance with reggae artist Kevin Lyttle, and we found out that we have the same birthday. He was so much fun to dance with. I tried to get inside Da Brat's VMAs after-party but I got DENIED! *scoffs* The security guard tapped his pen on his clipboard, looked at me and said, "NOPE! You're not on the list; you're not getting in!" Well I declare!

I have been to two MTV VMA Awards. I was a seat filler when I attended my first VMAs. That was the year Aaliyah died in a plane crash. The seat filler group that I was assigned to had about 300 people in it, and we had to wait in the basement of the famous St. Joseph's Church (at least they gave us snacks, pastries and coffee) for hours and hours (five) before the show started. Finally, around 7pm, the VMA producers ordered us to walk several blocks over to the Metropolitan Opera House and there we would all be the audience for Jay Z's live musical tribute. They gave us all candles to hold up in the sky in honor of Aaliyah. It was awesome!

The second time I attended the MTV VMAs, I was lucky enough to be a red carpet correspondent on behalf of 107.3 KFFM. I met and interviewed all kinds of celebrities, like Baby Bash, Common, Maria Menounous and many more. That experience was exhilarating and it is one of my favorite memories of all time.

I just voted online for my favorite "Best New Artist," DNCE!
