If you're like most folks around here, you watched Yakima's biggest annual parade wind its way down Yakima Avenue on Saturday, saw all the floats, princesses, bands, classic cars, firetrucks and police motorcycles -- but what you might not have seen is where it all started.

Up around 16th Avenue, parade organizers were lining up Corvettes and DeLoreans (even helping push-start the occasional reluctant ride), band directors were straightening out columns of school musicians and proud parents were tugging at crooked uniform collars and snapping phone photos left and right.

The chaos was a kick!
