Have you ever said those words or phrases where you'd have to explain to others what it means, even though it's second-nature around here? We all have'em. Here are a few phrases we may have all said that someone from out of town wouldn't have a clue what you're talking about.

  • "Want a Pink Lady?"

    No, it's not some sunburned female. A Pink Lady is a type of apple as, living in Yakima, you'll know there are several varieties. An apple isn't just an apple, there are some better suited for eating fresh, baking and more.

  • "It's Cheese Zombie Day!"

    Cheese Zombies were a staple in our school lunches for many years. Although a version of them still exist, they're just not the same.

  • "Wanna Cruise the Ave?"

    Cruisin' the ave was a popular thing to do back in the day. Simple enough, one would drive up and down Yakima avenue with the windows rolled down and generally hang out.

  • "I could sure go for a Miner burger!"

    Miner's is one of the 'must go-to' places in the area. Home of the super-large burgers and some of the best fries and milkshakes you've ever had. If someone calls for a Miner burger, it's best to join them in their journey.

  • "Let's Go to the Duck Park"

    Randal Park has ducks that live there and you are welcome to feed them. Ever since I can remember, many have simply called it Duck Park, although there's many other features there.
