If you need to break down kilometers into miles and give you a couple of ideas around Yakima where you can utilize this, we've got it for ya!

Basically, 1 kilometer is about a sixth of a mile.

5 kilometers is equal to about 3.1 miles. If you're looking to walk 3 miles, here are a few ideas.

  • The route around Franklin park (including the school) if you walk streetside one loop is one mile. Just walk that route just over 3 times in a row.
  • If you walk on Summitview from 40th to 16th, then up to Lincoln and travel back to 40th, that's about 3.2 miles.
  • If you walk up and down all the streets in Downtown Yakima between Naches and Front Street that should be an easy 3.1 miles.
  • At Sarg Hubbard Park if you do a figure-eight on the path, walking around the lake and back to the main area that's only about half of a mile. Just do that six times and you should be good.
  • The loop at Randall Park is only half a mile as well. Same idea - just make 6 laps and you'll be fine.
  • If you're feeling extra adventurous, traveling from 1st and Nob Hill to 48th and Nob Hill is 3.1 miles. Or just walk half of that from either side and turn around to walk to your starting point, that'd work, too.
  • The Barge-Lincoln area is a hot-spot for walkers and joggers. If you walk from 36th and Yakima Ave. to just before 16th where Gilbert has the off-street, take that and walk back to 36, that's about 2 miles. From there you can walk from Yakima Ave all the way to 16th and that'd be about 3.1 miles.

Though I wouldn't recommend it, the large roundabout on Valley Mall Blvd. and Rudkin Road, if you walked around it 31 times that would equal 5km and would get you some weird looks from the drivers. It's highly dangerous, though.

What are some other great walks to take that would equal 3.1 miles or 5km? Let me know in the comments.
