A Tribe Called Quest To Be Honored With Mural in Queens

Almost three months after the passing of longtime member Phife Dawg, A Tribe Called Quest is slated to be honored with a mural on Linden Boulevard in their native Queens, New York. The mural will be painted on the side of Nu-Clear Cleaners, the famed location of their classic 1991 video for "Check The Rhime," according to TMZ.

Linden Boulevard itself is close to being co-named A Tribe Called Quest Boulevard in honor of the legendary rap group that made the street famous amongst hip-hop fans.

An online petition was created back in March by Tee Smith of the Hip-Hop Discussion Group, requesting that New York City councilmembers I. Daneek Miller and Melissa Mark-Viverito rename the block of Linden between 192nd and 193rd Streets after A Tribe Called Quest.

While the timetable for the official Linden Boulevard re-naming is unclear, Councilman Daneek Miller has told TMZ that the mural could be underway within weeks.

ATCQ member Jarobi White has also sought to rename Sayers Avenue after the late Phife Dawg, born Malik Taylor, who passed away March 22nd age 45 from complications stemming from Type-2 diabetes. White also posted on Facebook that he would like to St. Albans Park renamed Malik Taylor Park. That coincided with the petition to rename Linden after the quartet.

In what looks to be a nod to their acclaimed 1993 album Midnight Marauders, mural designer Vince Ballentine provided the below mock-up of the mural to TMZ.
