Angel Haze has clearly been making a name for herself with the EP 'New York' and this year's LP, 'Dirty Gold.' With the spotlight in her direction, there is still a bit of mystery to the Detroit-bred rapper. However, she recently opened up about a number of topics regarding her family, depression and her relationship.

Although she's admitted to dating model Ireland Baldwin, Angel claims the media still calls them best friends, an occurrence that irritates the rhymer.

"... If we were two guys, it’d be insane, negatively insane with the attention," she told the Independent. "With us, it’s all being very positive. The media are like, ‘Oh they’re so cute, they’re best friends.' An interracial gay couple, I mean that’s just weird for America right now. We f--- and friends don’t f---. I have never f---ed one of my friends. Once I see you in that way, it doesn’t happen. But we f--- and it’s crazy and that’s weird to say because I think about it in terms of an audience reading it and them thinking, ‘What the hell?’ But it happens."

But even though Angel is happy with Ireland, she wasn't always that way. She's cut off ties with her relatives -- making her feel depressed -- due to a bad family situation and being sexually abused as a child.

“I don’t have any family," she said. "I feel like an episode of 'The Lost Boys' or something. I have no parents, no anything. I’ve got a little sister but I can’t see her because my mum has her, which means basically I don’t have a little sister. There’s me, then there’s the rest of the world. Sometimes I think, ‘What the hell?’ You’ve got to be pretty self-aware for that s--- otherwise you get swallowed in depression.”

The negative feelings were just so strong that it's driven her to dark periods. "I’ve been sad enough to be crazy, to cry and do s--- that no one should ever do," Angel revealed.

While she's gone through some tough times, Angel said that she is much better and just thinks that her life isn't so bad compared to others. And of course, there's Ireland.

"When you find love it definitely amends your perspective on certain things," she said. "I was dating a guy I really liked about a year ago and being around him and realizing so many things about myself totally made me hate the traditional ideas of what a relationship should be, of what romance should be. You go out and you’re searching for this utopian feeling, butterflies, that thing where you can’t stop thinking about them. It doesn’t have to be so overwhelming.”
