John Riggs was born and raised in Yakima. He moved away from Washington state for about 10 years, but moved back home, bringing along his wife and three kids. You'll find John in town snapping photos when he's covering new business openings, especially restaurants. He loves to help spread the word, and to encourage folks to shop local first. John also loves to travel, always looking for quick weekend getaways, attending events, and fan expos around the country. Don't be too shy to say, "Hi!"

This Peanut Chicken Rice Bowl in Yakima is the Perfect Lunch Option
Lunch, in my opinion, is the most underrated meal of the day. Everyone goes big for dinner and there are plenty of breakfast spots but lunch is that refuel from the busy day. Heading to a cafe, restaurant, back home, or even grabbing something from the work fridge to sit, chill, and eat something without trying to think about work is much needed for all...

Yakima Restaurant Has Amazing Elotes on the Menu All Year Long
I was thinking about how amazing elotes are. If you're not familiar it's sometimes called Mexican Street Corn or some variation of that. It's corn-on-the-cob that's been grilled and covered with tops like cheese, salt, cilantro, other stuff as well depending on who's making it...

Where to Get Your Halloween Fix in Yakima Without Spirit Halloween
Now that it's mid-September and signs for a Spirit Halloween seem pretty bleak, you have to remember there were years and years before a Spirit Halloween store existed. Don't wait for Halloween to happen when we have other options for Halloween already existing right here in Yakima...
Mom’s Dishes Officially Open for ‘Grand Opening’ Friday, Sept. 15
Mom's Dishes was a restaurant in town I was looking forward to for quite a while. They had a soft open where you could dine to eat but were still working out all the kinks in a hand's-on practical sense. It seems like they have everything worked out to have an official grand opening set for, as of writing this, tomorrow, Friday, September 15...
This $6 Charcuterie Box is My New Favorite Thing in Yakima
I found the cutest charcuterie box in Yakima at the most unlikely of places.
It all started last night when my kid asked if I could take them to one of their favorite coffee stands the next morning before school. I agreed as I had plans early enough the next morning so needed to wake up earlier than usual as it was...
Effin Egg is Open in Yakima and it’s Effin Amazing
A while back I remember seeing the Effin Egg sign go up and got very excited about the prospect of a breakfast sandwich place opening in the West Valley area of Yakima. They're doing a soft open right now so I had to check it out.
The inside of the shop looked like something I'd see when visiting other cities out of town...
