Chance the Rapper held a free concert in Chicago on Saturday night (Aug. 12) and it was lit. The Grammy-winning rhymer performed a special show for teens following the Bud Billiken Parade where he served as Grand Marshal. According to Billboard, Chano had plenty of surprises up his sleeve at the concert.

Chart-topping rapper Future and fellow Chi-City native Jeremih made surprise appearances but the biggest surprise of the night was Barack Obama via a recorded video message. In the clip above, Obama congratulated Chance on being the Grand Marshal of the Bud Billiken parade, which is the largest African-American parade in the U.S.

The former 44th president also saluted Chance for his activism with the youth and the Chicago Public School system. "I wanted to just have the chance to say to all of you that the Bud Billiken parade stands for so much of what our community is about," Obama said. "We want to make sure our kids are safe, we want to make sure that they are ready to go back to school. We want to make sure that we are nurturing and protecting and encouraging and loving the next generation of leaders all throughout the city of Chicago. So Chance, I'm grateful for everything that you've done on behalf of the young people back home."

In addition to the concert, Chance along with SocialWorks and the Brooklyn-based backpack company STATE bags reportedly donated 30,000 backpacks to Chicago students at the parade. It's always good to see artists give back to their hometown communities.
