Best Places for a Kid’s Birthday Party in Yakima – John Riggs’ Top Five
Being a dad of 3 children aged 5 and younger it’s high time I take them out on one of their most important days of the year. Also, being that they all have birthdays within a few weeks of each other, my wife and I decided to start having 1 big party for all of our kids and their friends. Sure, we can celebrate each of their days at home but with everyone together we gotta go big and Yakima has no shortage of great places to have a birthday party for kids. I’m all about the experience; doing something we don’t normally do on a daily basis. Experiences we only opt to do on special days. Here are a few great places to have your children’s birthday parties in Yakima.
Of course any place that features video games you know I’m all for. I used to go here by myself when they first opened, I used to take my wife here to go mini-golfing and now I bring my kids. You won’t find any giant rats, animatronic bands or pizza that ain’t worth it’s weight in sauce. Actually, the pizza at Meadowbrook is extremely edible. I wasn’t expecting much out of a fun center pizza but I even went in for seconds. Meadowbrook Family Fun Center has your standard fair of arcade games including Guitar Hero. Lots of games where you can win tickets for prizes like skee-ball and other games of chance. There’s a motion ride that’s only $3 for two people. During the summer months they open it up for the batting cages, mini-golf course, go-karts and bumper boats but even in the bitter chill of Winter you can take advantage of all of the indoor activities. They offer convenient kid’s birthday packages for groups of 8 or more, they’ll even provide the invitations.
I don’t know one person who grew up in Yakima who hasn’t been to Skateland. Although roller skating as a hobby has since been replaced by skateboards, razor scooters, mini-bikes and even those ridiculous heelies, Skateland still exists today as the place to go roller skating in Yakima. Skateland may be a fun place to take your kids to try something new. Don’t worry, they can always slowly skate around the parameter while holding that bar that keeps their balance – that’s where you’ll find me.
Don’t let the name fool you, you don’t need to be a gymnast to attend Gymnastics Plus. When you set foot inside Gymnastics Plus for the first time you’re immediately overwhelmed on how large the place is. There are so many activities for your children from trampolines to uneven bars to an Olympic-sized practice mat to a ball pit for the kids and all points in between. There is something for all ages and all sizes at Gymnastics Plus. Down the hall just a bit is where you’ll find Kids Castle which is definitely more kid friendly. It’s a gigantic gerbil-like containment unit for your kids where they can climb up nets, through tunnels and into more ball pits. There’s a snack bar featured in that area and if you reserve Gymnastics Plus / Kids Castle for your kid’s birthday party you’ll also have your own party room for present opening and cake eating.
A list of places to hold children’s birthday parties wouldn’t be complete without a good ol’ fashion pizza joint. My personal pick goes to Abby’s on Tieton drive. The pizza is great, it’s a nice throwback to the old fashion pizza parlors I grew up with and it’s simply just good food. No kid doesn’t like pizza and parents love discounts. Abby’s Pizza can hold parties of any kind. You’ll get both as they take 10% off your pizza, provide balloons and will get you a t-shirt for the birthday boy or girl folded up like a slice of pizza. You just can’t go wrong with Abby’s.
Sometimes you just want to find a nice place to cool off in the middle of summer. Nobody in Yakima is cooler than the local ice skating rink simply known as the Yakima Ice Rink. They offer a couple of convenient options for your children’s birthday party. You can bring your kids in along with everyone else skating on the ice or if you have the money to burn you can rent the entire ice skating rink just for your party. They’ll even keep the snack bar open for you or you can bring in your snacks. Definitely an experience your kids and their friends won’t forget.
There’s a hidden message on the roof, too. Have you seen it before? If you’re driving on the highway near the Ice Rink and the sun hits the tin roof just right, you can see a very faint 107.3 KFFM logo on top of it from a contest we did several years ago.
And that’s my list – use it to your advantage. Did I leave your favorite place to take your kids to a birthday party in Yakima? Comment below the map.
