Brush Fire on Ahtanum Brings Cloud of Smoke in West Valley

You know how sometimes there is, what looks like, a fire and you think you should get a closer look but don't want to travel as far. Today I had the spare time to do just that.

It didn't know if it was contained or not. The closer we got, my wife noticed not one but two helicopters so that led us to believe it wasn't on purpose.

We some a few nearby spectators watching in disbelief as well.

This was around the 166 and Rutherford area, way out west of Wiley City.

Looks like firefighter made it to the scene to help contain it. The Facebook group, Yakima Scan, has been doing updates as well.

Alas, this is a small taste of what's to come this season as we often have brush fires along our ridges. Best to play safe and keep checking back for updates on these and others like it.
