BTS Kick Off Their ‘Love Yourself’ Campaign: Why Is Jungkook in a Wheelchair?
BTS — otherwise known as Beyond The Scene, otherwise known as the Bangtan Boys, otherwise known as The Most Popular South Korean Boy Band of the past few years — are officially kicking off an almost inevitably record-shattering new era.
With a poster released by Big Hit Entertainment at midnight in South Korea (Aug. 11), the “Not Today” troupe are officially kicking off some sort of concept series called Love Yourself, which Rap Monster oh-so-sneakily teased during their 2017 Billboard Music Awards acceptance speech a few months back. (“Love myself, love yourself…“)
You can’t let one word uttered by these guys slip by, evidently.
The poster features the Charlie Puth-approved Jungkook sitting in a wheelchair, complete with a mysterious tagline: “The day when you want to run towards where your heart is headed.”
“The poster is really a teaser for the concept of the Love Yourself series which is filled with clues as to what is to come next. BTS is always wanting to keep their fans guessing and excited as the concept is rolled out,” Big Hit Entertainment said in a statement, revealing — well, nothing much in particular.
Fan theories are, in true K-pop fashion, already running rampant among the forums and comment sections. Many seem to think the concept is meant to channel a specific K-drama, or that each member will have their own dramatic “episode.” Others are guessing Jungkook’s wheelchair is a continuation of the “I Need U” video, in which he got hit by a car. (He also gets all messed up in the Japanese version of the “Blood, Sweat & Tears” video, so…honestly, he’s just been through a lot in general.)
According to a press release, this Love Yourself concept will continue straight through to 2018, including a forthcoming EP due out in September.
Let the sleuthing begin.
