• Cargill is one of about 30 agriculture groups calling for Congress to reconsider a 52-year embargo the United States first imposed against Cuba in the early 1960s.

Devry Boughner Vorwerk, Vice President at Cargill and Chair of the U.S. Agriculture Coalition for Cuba, said with 2014 being called one of the worst years for U.S. exports to Cuba in the last decade, normalizing trade relations and easing the existing embargo is a necessary step to protect the interests of U.S. agriculture.

  • Beef continues to struggle in the U.S. For the past two decades, chicken has outranked beef as the most produced meat, and now pork is about to surpass it as well.

Pork output in 2015 jumps 4.6 percent to a record and cattle ranchers have yet to recover from a 2012 drought, and beef production is headed for a 22-year low.

Pork production will climb this year to a record 23.9 billion pounds, as per-capita consumption reaches the highest in five years. Beef output will drop 1.7 percent while chicken jumps to an all-time high of 39.2 billion pounds.
