New Year’s Day at Parker Field, the Yakima Pepsi Beetles American Legion Baseball Program will draw the winning name for a classic 1972 Volkswagen Super Beetle.

Festivities start at noon on the newly renovated infield at Parker Field. Proceeds from the raffle will be used to offset costs of a thorough resurfacing of the infield.

The raffle/fundraiser culminates a year of activity to support the youth baseball organization. The Super Beetle has been on display at public events and locations around the valley and participants paid $1 per ticket for a chance to win the classic "Bug."

Bob Garretson, Jr., coach of two national championship Beetle teams, will draw the winning ticket.

Scott Wilson, past president of the organization, expressed satisfaction with the project. “This fundraiser exceeded all expectations. Starting with the businesses who stepped up and donated their expertise and materials to refurbish the Super Beetle to premium condition – to property and business owners who allowed us to sell raffle tickets on their premises – to supportive people in the community who bought thousands and thousands of tickets. We are extremely grateful,” he said. “And on New Year’s Day, someone is going to drive home in a very cool car!”
