• According to House Ag Committee Ranking Member Collin Peterson, there is a dairy program in the works that he believes he can accept. But Peterson had not seen the dairy language. It had only been described to him. As a result he released a statement Thursday to explain that he has not agreed to a dairy proposal in the farm bill yet. He said the proposed concept appears to move in the right direction and might be something he could reluctantly support.
  • The American Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors has approved a strategic action plan to address public policy issues for 2014. The plan includes focusing the organization’s attention on agricultural labor reform, support for renewable fuels, support for biotechnology, protecting farmers’ interests in regard to new technology systems and data compilation, opposition to expanded federal jurisdiction under the Clean Water Act and protecting farmer and rancher interests regarding fiscal policy and tax reform issues.
  • It is not too late for producers to respond to the 2013 Census of Aquaculture. The Census is the only comprehensive source of data on the aquaculture industry in the U.S.
