Hyperkin is a video game company known for releasing third-party video gaming items from game systems that can play Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis and more in one unit to releasing controllers and many more items. They've recently released a portable unit that plays Super Nintendo games. Is it worth checking out?

I think there are several reasons why this is worth adding to your video game collection.

First of all, it's a Super Nintendo that can play most Super Nintendo games. I say most as there are a few that may have issues running on it. It's well built, has great sound and the system, itself, has the controller built into it, but if you prefer playing on a standard SNES controller, it has plug-ins to allow you to do that. This is handy if you're playing a two-player game. There's even an option to plug this portable unit to your TV so you can play on a standard television, too.

On the other hand, there's no HDMI support so if that's all you use, you're out of luck. However, this is meant to be a portable unit so any option to hook to your TV via AV cables is fine and a very welcome addition to this awesome system.

Still, for $99.99, it's a slice of nostalgia that I think is worth checking out. I know it'll be on my Christmas wish list.
