Recently, I attended a CPR training class at the Memorial Hospital Community Education Center (on Nob Hill Boulevard). It was very eye-opening, especially since I had never taken a CPR class before.

We learned the steps to performing CPR and we got to see how to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) machine, which has a high success rate of saving lives when administering CPR.

If you should ever have to perform CPR, Yakima Memorial Hospital offers the following recommendations:

1) Check to see if the person is breathing. If not...

2) Tell someone to call 9-1-1 (or call yourself if you are alone)

3) Tell someone to see if there is an AED machine nearby. (If not, then administer CPR until the paramedics arrive.)

4) Follow the voice instructions from the AED machine.

Thank you to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital for the CPR class, and to the generous donation from the family of Addy and Josh Logsdon.
