• Texas Congressman Kevin Brady’s Death Tax Repeal Act has 218 co-sponsors. The proposed legislation would repeal estate taxes.

American Farm Bureau President Bob Stallman says although permanent law enacted as part of the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 provided significant estate tax relief, repeal is the best solution to protect all farms and ranchers from the estate tax.

If Congress fails to permanently repeal the estate tax, the AFBF says surviving family members may be forced to sell off parts of their farms which could jeopardize their livelihoods.

  • “Not fair and not just” is the way farm worker advocate Rosalinda Guillen described the decision of Sakuma Farms to stop allowing migrant workers families to stay rent free during the summer harvest.

The workers claim the move is a retaliation by the farms owner to unionization and several strikes last year demanding better pay. The workers have gone to Skagit County Superior Court to ask Judge Susan Cook to order the company to continue housing the workers and their families.

The ruling could have far reaching ramifications for other migrant housing operations.
