The Better Business Bureau of eastern Washington is warning about scammers trying to trick people who want to give to help with recovery efforts in the Taylor Bridge fire near Cle Elum.  The BBB’s Chelsea Dannon says scammers have set up websites hoping to gain donations or financial information from web surfers.  Dannon says there’s good reason why scammers are using the web instead of making phone calls. Dannon says the web allows scammers to reach a lot more people than through phone lines.

Dannon says the more people scammers can target at the same time the better chance they have at getting money or financial information. Your safest bet?  Work with local organizations or the American Red Cross and stay away from online fundraising when it comes to disasters. If you do donate through a website make sure you know where the money is going.
