Elton John Wants Justin Timberlake to Portray Him in Biopic

‘Rocketman,’ a biopic on Elton John, is in the works, and now the 64-year-old singer reveals that his first choice to play him in the film is Justin Timberlake.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, John says he was impressed by Timberlake’s “superb” impersonation of him in the David LaChappelle video for ‘This Train Don’t Stop There Anymore,’ and puts the ‘Friends With Benefits’ star at the top of his wish list for the forthcoming project.

Sir Elton adds that the biopic is “very much in the works” and is “a surreal look at my life, and not just a factual look at my life, more in the manner of a ‘Moulin Rouge’!” He continues, “I just don’t want it to be a normal biopic because my life hasn’t been like that. And it only goes up to when I go into rehab in 1990. It starts with me going into rehab and ends when I come out.”

The ‘Rocketman’ script was written by Lee Hall (‘Billy Elliot’), and while Sir Elton says a director has been chosen, there’s no word on who it is just yet. The singer will produce the project, and more information about the film is expected to be announced soon.

This month, HBO is set to air Cameron Crowe’s documentary on the making of ‘The Union,’ John’s 2010 collaborative release with Leon Russell. January also marks Sir Elton’s return to the studio for his next solo LP.
