What the Workshops offer:WSDA GAP auditors and educators will present an overview of the USDA GAP/GHP program, and answer questions to guide you in identifying low-cost strategies for implementing Good Agricultural Practices on your farm, whether or not you plan to be audited

Farm Tour participants will get a hands-on look at this diversified 3000-acre organic farm and discuss best practices for:

  • Human health & hygiene, transporting product from harvest to market, wash & irrigation water usage and testing, preventing farm animal- and wildlife-contamination of crops

  • On-farm wash, chop and other processing operations

  • GAP/GHP implementation, regardless of plans to seek an official audit

  • Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) proposed rules for produce safety

The first 10 registrants (one per farm) will receive “Wholesale Success,” a 300+ page, full-color farmers’ guide to food safety, selling, post-harvest handling, and packing produce ($80 value)

WSDA’s food safety and regulatory guidance can help your farm
move to the next level of good agricultural practices and marketplace success!

This Roundtable is part of Bridging the GAPs – a WSDA project to identify and share best practices relating to on-farm food safety for small, mid-sized and diversified fruit and vegetable farms to help improve food safety, manage risk and prepare for audits under the USDA Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Handling Practices (GHP) program. The project also provides up-to-date information on the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and FDA’s proposed Produce Safety Rules that will become requirements over the next few years. Bridging the GAPs is funded through a USDA Specialty Crop Block Grant.
