Farm Bill Vote This Week and Republicans Immigration Policy
- The Senate will vote on the farm bill conference report this week.
The Office of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced he filed cloture on the bill. The cloture vote will be held Monday evening. As long as 60 Senators vote to end debate, there will be 20 minutes for final debate and closing statements Tuesday afternoon immediately followed by the vote.
If the Senate approves the bill as expected - White House Press Secretary Jay Carney has signaled President Obama will sign it.
- The House Republican leadership is trying to sell their colleagues on a series of broad immigration principles, including a path to legal status for those here illegally.
Speaker John Boehner’s leadership team introduced the principles at their annual policy retreat. Top Republicans circulated a tightly held one-page memo titled “standards for immigration reform” toward the tail-end of a day that include strategy conversations about Obamacare, the economy and the national debt.
