On this Mother's Day, I thought it would only be appropriate to give a shout out to my mom, 'Winnie'. She's the office manager at McClure elementary school, but nobody calls her Mrs. Riggs, they all just call her Winnie as she is that personable, both at school and at home. She's pretty much the school mom at McClure, both to her students and to her fellow faculty.

Growing up with her as my mom was nice. Before she started working for the school district she was a stay-at-home mom which worked in our benefit. How she was able to stay at home all day with so many kids (I'm the 6th of 7 Riggses), I'll never know. She was your basic all-American mom who provided 3 meals a day, cleaned the house daily, helped us all with our homework and gave us all the attention we needed when we requested. She would also do our laundry, stitch and sew if we ripped our clothing and would kiss our boo-boos if we fell and scraped our knee.

She's now a grandmother 13 times over and is also a great-grandmother but I'll always know her as 'The Mom' as I yell into the answering machine whenever I call home and nobody answers. Happy Mother's Day, The Mom!
