A couple of weeks ago I heard about the story of Desmond Elwell, a 12-year-old boy who lives in Tennessee with his parents. He needed heart surgery, but there were some conflicts. He and his mom are both members of the Yakama Nation. At first the tribe denied his heart surgery. Then his mom, Mandi, took to social media with #iheartdesi. A couple of days later the courts that are dealing with his case granted temporary guardianship and his heart surgery

Now fast forward a couple of weeks. Desi got his surgery. He even got some support from members of the University of Utah football team. There are still custody issues. Since Mandi was granted temporary custody. He might have to go back to his previous foster home. But that is still in the air. So if you wanna get more info on Desi and show your support -- not only for Desi, but for all children in foster care -- his mom has set up a Facebook and a website.
