A new report produced by Purdue University shows demand for recent college graduates with degrees in Ag programs. There are an estimated 57,900 high-skilled job openings each year in the food, Ag, renewable natural resources and environment fields in the United States. Ag Secretary Vilsack says there’s ample career opportunities available for those receiving Ag-related degrees - and he says those jobs will become more important as we continue to develop solutions to feed more than 9-billion people by 2050.

The Safeguard American Food Exports Act of 2015 - recently introduced in the House of Representatives would make it illegal to sell or transport horses or parts of horses in interstate or foreign commerce for human consumption. The sale of horse meat for human consumption is banned in the U.S. - but it’s subject to congressional review each year. There is no federal law that prohibits transport of horses for slaughter across from the U.S. to Canada or Mexico. The American Horse Council says this legislation would protect the public from human health risks when consuming horse meat due to drugs used to treat the animals.
