Union Gap police are trying to find out why a 10-year-old boy was killed as the result of a gunshot early Sunday.

The fatal shooting was reported at 1:20 a.m. Sunday morning. Union Gap police responded to an address in the 1800 block of West Ahtanum Road and found the boy suffering from a gunshot wound.

Emergency medical personnel took the boy to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation continues, but officials have said they don't believe the shooting was gang related.
