Inspector Reesha: CASE #2016

"Is there Bear meat at Safeway?"

That's the question that my boss asked us during our staff meeting. The room burst with laughter. Why on earth would he think that there is bear meat at Safeway (and more importantly, why did he just randomly say that in a staff meeting)? We still don't know the answer to that question, but it did strike me as a curious question to find the answer to.

Inspector Reesha is on the case!

My first clue that there really is not any bear meat at Safeway came in the form of a follow-up question to my boss.

"Did you actually see any bear meat being sold at Safeway?" we asked him. "I think so!" he said, "well...all I know is that whatever it was, it started with the letter 'B'."

I personally think he saw something that was labeled "boneless" and thought it was bear meat. I think my boss needs to get some glasses!

I went to Safeway and didn't see any bear meat on display for sale. I did, however, see a fresh OCTOPUS.

I also stopped by Ray's Meat's, at South 3rd Ave, near Whitman St. I noticed meats on display such as pork, lamb, and various cuts of beef. I asked the manager, Randy, and his employee, Joe, if they sold any bear meat. They both looked at me like I had eight arms.

"Nobody around here sells bear meat!" they informed me. "Maybe on the west side of the mountains they do, but definitely not around here. It would have to be inspected by the USDA and then shipped frozen to a butcher store."

So there! I solved the mystery.

You will not find any bear meat, not at Safeway, not at Ray's Meats, or any where else in the Yakima Valley!

Case closed!
