John Mayer Defends Justin Bieber After Tour Cancellation

Tried and true Belieber? Then you need to support Justin Bieber‘s choice to cut his Purpose tour short, John Mayer is insisting.

Mayer, who, himself, canceled a portion of his 2012 tour to deal with health issues, said the move was likely Bieber’s implicit admission that he was simply too worn out to continue, and urged fans to be sympathetic.

“When someone pulls remaining dates of a tour, it means they would have done real damage to themselves if they kept going,” he wrote on Twitter. “We’ve lost so many great artists lately. I give Justin [two thumbs up] for realizing it was time to call it. You should too.”

Bieber, who had 14 shows remaining on his tour, announced yesterday (July 24) that due to “unforeseen circumstances” he had to kill what was left of Purpose. The tour kicked off in Seattle in March 2016 and has made its way around the world. Intended remaining stops included venues in Minneapolis, East Rutherford and Toronto.

“Justin loves his fans and hates to disappoint them,” a rep told Us Weekly. “He thanks his fans for the incredible experience of the Purpose World Tour over last 18 months. He is grateful and honored to have shared that experience with his cast and crew for over 150 successful shows across six continents during this run.”
