They may share a last name, but they sure don’t seem to share musical taste.  Songwriter Linda Perry called singer Katy Perry‘s music “crap” during a recent interview.

While discussing the state of the music industry backstage at the Ford Amphitheater in Los Angeles recently, Linda Perry — who’s not related to Katy — dissed the ‘Teenage Dream’ singer, saying, “Who wants a f****** Katy Perry record? Two songs are good, but the rest of the album is going to be crap. It’s going to sound like s***, so who cares about buying that record? People download the single and that’s it.”

Linda — best known for singing the hit ‘What’s Up’ while fronting the band 4 Non Blondes before going on to an enormously successful songwriting career by penning tunes for Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani and Pink –then gave Katy a rather backhanded compliment, saying, “I’m not saying that Katy is bad. She is great for what she does, but she is not reinventing the wheel or giving substance.” She called Katy Perry’s music, “microwave popcorn for you to feast on right at this moment. That’s what she wants to do obviously, not looking to  change the world musically, all the power to her. I am  not saying it’s bad, but it’s not what I participate in. But that is part of the reason why music business is in turmoil.”

No response from Katy Perry to Linda Perry’s comments.

In addition to her work with her former group 4 Non Blondes, Linda Perry has written hits such as Christina Aguilera’s ‘Beautiful,’  Gwen Stefani’s ‘What You Waiting For’ and Pink’s ‘Get The Party Started.’ The two Perrys don’t really share a last name, by the way — Katy Perry’s real surname is Hudson.
