Protestors Chant Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Alright’ at Donald Trump Rally in Chicago

Protestors erupted in a chant of Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” at a Donald Trump rally in Chicago last night (March 11).

Both supporters and protestors gathered at Trump’s scheduled rally at UIC Pavilion on Friday ahead of the Illinois primary on Tuesday. The GOP presidential frontrunner ultimately canceled his appearance and postponed the event due to security concerns. A portion of demonstrators broke out in Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly single, the Chicago Reader reports. Watch below:

The Grammy-winning “Alright” has become a protest song against police brutality and systemic racism, not just last night, but across the Black Lives Matter movement. Lamar performed the song at the 2015 BET Awards atop a police car, an image that was also employed in the song's Colin Tilley-directed music video. The performance elicited some controversy, with Fox Business' Geraldo Rivera calling it “counterproductive” and “the wrong message.” Lamar responded by describing the song as a message of “hope.”
