The Buena Library reopens this week in a new building and will be a great place for kids to get their summer reading done. The new facility is located at the same address as the old, double-wide trailer that housed the Buena Library for about ten years.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment for the Friends of the Buena Library,” said Kim Hixson, Director of Yakima Valley Libraries. “Working with local partners, the Friends were able to secure funding for the construction of a new facility that will house the Buena Library and a community room. Although this process has taken longer than expected, the Friends have worked diligently to make this a reality for the Buena community.”

Construction began in the fall of 2011 and was completed in May. Yakima Valley Library staff is finishing the move of library materials, computers, and furniture in preparation for the reopening of the Library on Thursday, May 31 at 2:00pm.

The Library will have the same schedule, Tuesday and Thursday, 2:00-7:00pm, and Saturday, 9:00am-2:00pm.

“We are looking forward to once again providing the community of Buena with library services in this new space. And we are grateful to the generous and hard-working Friends of the Buena Library for making this all possible,” says Hixson. “This new facility is the fulfillment of their dream for their community.”
