Kim Kardashian isn't taking blackface accusations in stride, and insists claims she aimed to capitalize on black culture are off the mark.

Last week, Kardashian posted a series of images from a forthcoming shoot for KKW Beauty, and some fans took issue with her skin tone.

"Wow Kim! You're so beautiful even in blackface!" one user joked.

And when The New York Times pressed Kardashian for answers, she said it was never her intention to look completely different, and that a number of technical factors may have made her appear darker than she is.

“I would obviously never want to offend anyone,” she said. “I used an amazing photographer and a team of people. I was really tan when we shot the images, and it might be that the contrast was off. But I showed the image to many people, to many in the business. No one brought that to our attention. No one mentioned it.”

Kardashian added that she "[has] the utmost respect for why people might feel the way they did" and said she and her team made concerted efforts to adjust accordingly.

“We made the necessary changes to that photo and the rest of the photos,” she added. “We saw the problem, and we adapted and changed right away. Definitely I have learned from it.”
