Lily Allen Reveals Miscarriage Nearly Killed Her, In Addition to Breaking Her Heart
Lily Allen is mother to two young daughters – Ethel, 2, and Marnie, 15 months. However, she had gotten pregnant by Ed Simons back in 2008 and miscarried. She got pregnant again in 2010 by now-husband Sam Cooper and also lost that baby, six months into her term. The singer has revealed that losing her unborn son at that time was so devastating that it nearly killed her.
Allen suffered a stillbirth and days later, she was rushed to hospital with septicemia, a bacterial infection. The condition almost killed her, but the sassy singer was so emotionally overwrought by the miscarriage that she was too numb to feel any pain from the physical condition.
Allen recalled the pain and laid her cards face up on the table regarding the loss, told the Sun (quotes via WENN), “It was horrendous and something I would not wish on my worst enemy. It’s something that I still haven’t dealt with. I never will get over it. I have dealt with it, you know, as being at one with it. But it’s not something you get over. I held my child and it was really horrific and painful – one of the hardest things that can happen to a person.”
Allen finished, “I was overwhelmed by what an incredibly unlucky thing it was to happen. But I had this man standing by my side, who I knew was going to be with me for the rest of my life. I nearly died. But I was numb and I didn’t care. I’d just lost my baby and that is a reflection of how numb I was.”
While Allen has not spoken much about her unborn son, he remains in her daily thoughts and she even has a memorial to him in her backyard. “We’ve got a little stone in our garden with his name on. And lots of different things that I do, rituals, I have him in my mind,” she said.
How sweet and touching. We just welled up a little. Hearing the normally brash and outspoken diva say these things make us realize how deep the wound is/was for her heart of hearts.
