Mary J. Blige Responds to Charity Lawsuits
Mary J can't seem to stay outta trouble...
For someone who wants no more drama, Mary J. Blige is sure embroiled in quite a bit of it. The ‘Real Love’ singer is now responding to lawsuits against her charity.
Blige is facing a slew of legal drama from the likes of TD Bank, who issued a $250,000 loan to her Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now charity, as well as musicians who claim they went unpaid for performing at a benefit for the FFAWN. TD Bank’s loan was due to be repaid by June of 2011 … and the charity only hawked over $368.33. Additionally, the musicians’ checks from the charity all bounced.
What’s more? The foundation failed to file a federal tax return in 2010. As such, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul had some ‘splaining to do, and she spilled to TMZ.
“As founder and CEO of FFAWN, I am ultimately responsible for anything that goes wrong,” Blige said in a mea culpa. “The problem is that I didn’t have the right people in the right places doing the right things. This should have never been allowed to happen, but it did and now we are fixing it.” Blige added that she’s got a new set of experts to “get the Foundation back on track, rectify outstanding issues, and make good on all of FFAWN’s obligations.” Atta girl!
Her statement echoes an official one from the organization, which told press, “The Mary J. Blige and Steve Stoute Foundation For The Advancement Of Women Now, Inc. is presently transitioning its management and headquarters.” We have a feeling with new handlers, everything will be just ‘Just Fine.’
