• Some northern Washington and Idaho counties are gearing up for increased mosquito levels.

Rain over last week has left considerable standing water which is a breeding ground for the pests.

Some counties either do not have the funds to stay ahead of the problem or just do not have abatement departments at all so are relying on the public to empty any standing water from their property as soon as possible to keep breeding grounds from forming.

Mosquitoes can carry the West Nile virus.

  • Reports show protein producers should see continued strong export and domestic demand for their products despite historically high prices.

There has been an upsurge in protein consumption in the American diet over the past several years. Pork and beef exports have also increased 5.3 percent so far this year compared to one year ago.

Export demand should increase further if pork and chicken supplies show meaningful gains in 2015. Demand prospects look positive for U.S. protein producers because key export market competitors are struggling with either tight supplies or disease.
