On a night when lots of people might've stayed home by their swamp coolers, Yakima decided to stroll downtown and catch some breezy music from Polecat and Crow and the Canyon.

Yup -- even as the temperature hovered around 100, folks were dancing and singing along as a couple of Northwest favorites put on a Downtown Summer Nights program that was darn near as hot as the air temperature on North Front Street.

Bellingham's Polecat and Portland-based Crow and the Canyon sweated out three hours of tunes that incorporated elements of bluegrass, country, Celtic, rock, reggae, roots and world music.

Next week, the forecast calls for cooler weather, and thicker soul and funk when Camille Bloom and Snug Harbor come to town for the Aug. 4 Downtown Summer Nights.

The weekly concert series, which continues through Aug. 18, is sponsored by Stewart Subaru, with music powered by Chinook FestLegends Casino provides the stage.
