We’ll have to wait until December for our Psych pals to reunite against Zachary Levi’s “Thin White Duke,” but a first look is already here. See Shawn, Gus and all the rest (minus one) ready to tackle another mystery in a new photo from Psych: The Movie.

Entertainment Weekly released a first photo of the Psych gang’s reunion, albeit in San Francisco rather than Santa Barbara (so as not to ignore the finale). The most notable omission seems to be Timothy Omundson’s Detective Lassiter, as Omundson had a minor stroke before filming, and needed to be written out.

That said, star James Roday and creator Steve Franks teased that Lassiter will find his way into the movie in some form:

Roday: [Omundson’s stroke] kind of forced us to rethink a lot. First and foremost, whether or not we should be making this movie — if it even made sense and if the timing was right or not. Then beyond that creatively, how do we make that work? […]

Franks: There is most definitely a way that he appears in the movie. We haven’t gotten to that point [in the editing process, yet]. I can’t say for 100 percent sure that he will, but I can say like 99.99 percent that we did everything we can to get Tim in the movie.

Roday: I think we found the best way possible to keep Lassiter very much a part of what we do, set him up to succeed in the future, and still give all of our Psych-Os an opportunity to see that ridiculously handsome mug of his.

The two-hour Psych: The Movie holiday special is eyed for December, returning James Roday and Dulé Hill to their roles as Shawn Spencer and Burton “Gus” Guster, with Psych creator Steve Franks directing a script co-written with Roday. Series stars Maggie Lawson, Corbin Bernsen, Cary Elwes and Kirsten Nelson will return for the film, which picks up three years after the 2014 finale, and sees the characters “come together during the holidays after a mystery assailant targets one of their own. A comedic thrill-ride follows, as the wild and unpredictable Psych team pursues the bad guys, justice … and, of course, food!”

We’ll likely hear more soon, so stay tuned for the latest on Psych: The Movie.
