Seven People You’ll Meet in Yakima

Welcome to Yakima! You'll find a little bit of everything and everyone here, though you might notice a few more types of people than others. Here's a short list of the types of people you'll meet in Yakima on any typical day.

The Beer Snob
It's not too hard to be a beer snob in Yakima as we host 75 percent of the hops used in the United States. Most probably aren't in your face about it, but may spark up a conversation on what their favorite beer is if you try offering a light beer.

The Rocker Who Still Thinks It's the '80s
I've seen more and more of these recently. Often in a concert T-shirt or flannel complete with ripped jeans and sporting long hair on guys or, better yet, a mullet. I welcome them. They're a great throwback.

The Fake Cowboy/girl
These are the people who dress the part and drive a big truck, but have never worked a day on the farm in their life.

The Real Cowboy/girl
Ironically harder to identify than the fake ones because they're probably dressed like everyone else, but they happen to work on a farm and they also drive a big truck, but they actually use their truck for intended purposes and not just to drive around town taking up two parking spots.

The 'Back in My Day' Historian
I might identify with these people more than most on the list. Often it's not in a bad or condescending way, but more to reminisce about stores we used to have and prices of items in our generation.

The Soccer Mom
These soccer moms are also super moms. They're running taxi service to and from appointments, running into stores to do quick shopping and on to the next event. We have a lot of youth activities in our area so it's not hard to run into these moms once in a while.

The Yakima Elite
This sounds smug, but it really isn't. These are the people who live and breathe Yakima. They can recommend all the greatest spots in town (all locally owned, of course), the best food, the best venues, the best places to get married, etc. They're always approachable and very decent to talk to. You'll often run into them at any outdoor event.
