Rik Mikals

I’ve been up and down the radio dial as the infamous “WKRP” theme song says. I started right out of high school in 1988 in my hometown of Clarkston Washington at KCLK – A country station and from there moved all over Idaho, Montana, California and Washington state at various radio stations. I was on KMPS in Seattle in the 90’s and moved to Yakima in 98 as Program Director of KFFM. I moved again and again until I was in Bakersfield California and then Tri-Cities Washington and finally have come full circle back to Yakima as the Operations Manager for KFFM.

I bought a farm in Prosser Wa and have 2 great dogs named Phoebe and Barkley. My son is an aspiring musician and plays and performs and writes original music in his band No Hope. I’m known for having a never ending knowledge of pop culture and I’m a huge comic book fan having a comic collection easily totally over 5,000 comics.

UBER is coming to Kennewick with potential UBER drivers having to register as Taxi Drivers. It's been a long drawn out process to bring the super popular service back to the Tri-Cities after a year of negotiations.

I started thinking and it occurred to me in a flash of brilliance. I think radio stations vehicles would make a great choice for UBER, Radio Stations and passengers alike.

Today Is National Vinyl Day — What Was Your First Disc? [VIDEO]

It's National Vinyl Day, and for those us of who grew up on those spinning discs, it's a day of remembrance of what was our first vinyl purchase. I remember buying my first 45 on a class trip to Portland and it was Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse Of The Heart." The first 33 disc I bought was an album no one would expect me to buy, and I've never told the story until today.

Suicide Squad Is Better Than Critical Reviews – Rik’s Review [VIDEO]

I've been a comic fan since I was a kid and we are living in a crazy age where technology has finally caught up to what can be published on a comic book page. X-Men in 2000 started the wave of newsprint to film explosion and with that a flood of comic book related movies.

There have been some hits as Iron Man, Avengers and The Dark Knight followed by the bombs of Green Lantern, Jonah Hex and Elektra. I actually liked Elektra but it did bomb at the box office.

DC Comics has been trying to have a hit movie that doesn't involve Superman or Batman and I think with Suicide Squad, they are one step closer.

Rik’s ’90s Lost Classic: Paula Cole ‘Where Have All …’ [VIDEO]

I grew up listening to the radio, in an era when you couldn't just dial up a song anytime you wanted. You were at the mercy of your local DJ.

You had to sit by the radio with a tape recorder, and when a song came on that you liked, you pressed "record," hoping to grab the song in its entirety. The only issue was that at times the disc jockey's voice covered over your song. For me that didn't matter, though -- it just made the mix tape more interesting. I dedicate this blog to the various songs that have come and gone, but will forever remain in that Walkman of the past.
