As temperatures rise this summer, you'll want to keep you and your family cool. Dr. Harfst from Animal Medical Service has some insights on on keeping your pets cool as well.

Many of these go without saying, but sadly, they must be said. A little common sense goes along way.

  • Make sure your pets have plenty of water available.
  • Think of your older pets like your older family members. Whenever possible, keep them inside.
  • Make sure there are spots of shade nearby for pets when they're outdoors.
  • Don't leave any animal in the car!

Remember, dogs and cats can't sweat like humans, so keep a close eye on them during these scorching-hot days. If they are showing signs of distress, you can take their temperature rectally. If it's over 104 degrees, you might consider taking them to the vet.
