Friday, June 25, was a monumental day for the United States of America. The Supreme Court voted 5-4 in favor of same-sex marriages across the country.

This is an issue that is close to home for me. As mentioned during Friday's morning show, my uncle Rod -- who is very near and dear to me -- is married to his domestic partner.

Fortunately Uncle Rod and his partner were able to get married when California first legalized it. Unfortunately, lawmakers rescinded the law and many other couples were denied. Now, in 2015, everyone can follow suit and pursue their dreams without fear of legal ramifications or needing to cross state lines.

Uncle Rod is one of the most confident men I  know.  He will not take crap from anyone.  He stands for what he believes in and his domestic partner is right there with him.

A few cool memories are their matching outfits. I first saw matching earrings. Next time, I saw matching shirts. The most memorable time, though, was when we had a family gathering and the two of them had matching barongs. A barong is the national dress of the Philippines. Let's just say that I, along with my cousins, were laughing because we were happy for and with them.

It's my fondest memory of him because if you are going to do it, commit and go all the way.

The Supreme Court's ruling definitely five steps in the right direction of progress and inclusion.

Salute to you, Uncle Rod!
