Neither HBO nor Jon Stewart have been particularly forthcoming with the ex-Daily Show host’s new shortform content, previously eyed for a return around the 2016 elections. Now, however, HBO reveals that Stewart’s new project is that of an animated cable news parody in the vein of The Onion, potentially due out as early as September or October.
We still don’t have the clearest picture of what ex-Daily Show host Jon Stewart’s HBO future looks like, though that hasn’t stopped Stewart from making headlines with his rescue work. Now, at long last, Stewart returned to late-night to reunite with Samantha Bee for her own Full Frontal TBS series and a little horsin’-around.
Lord knows we’ve missed the genius of Jon Stewart’s late-night voice in these troubled times, and it’s been some time since HBO signed the former Daily Show host to a four-year development deal. We wouldn’t expect Stewart to suit up again behind a desk just yet, but HBO now believes the late-night veteran will return to active TV duty just in time for the 2016 election.
