YouTube

Hollywood has lost a beloved ‘Scream Queen’.

Actress Marilyn Burns, who starred in the 1974 horror classic ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,’ died yesterday, August 5, E! News reports. She was 65 years old.

“She was found unresponsive by a family member this morning in her Houston, TX, home,” Burns’ rep tells E!, adding: “Her family asks for privacy at this time. Further details will be released later.”

Burns was well-known for her role as Sally Hardesty in ‘Texas Chainsaw,’ the film’s heroine and sole survivor of the chainsaw-weilding killer Leatherface. Though she acted intermittently since (with roles in other horror films such as the TV movie ‘Helter Skelter’ and ‘Eaten Alive’), the actress was fond of the ‘Chainsaw’ franchise and later made appearances in the 1994 and 2013 reboots. According to IMDB, her last role was in the upcoming film, ‘In a Madman’s World’.

Last year, Burns spoke out about her experiences in the ‘Chainsaw’ films in an interview which you can watch here.

“I mean, what were we thinking having somebody chase me through the woods with a chainsaw? We were a bunch of kids playing with a chainsaw and hoping we got it on camera,” she revealed about filming the original. “Thank goodness some of our accidents didn’t happen off-camera.”

The actress also delighted in working on ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D,’ the 2013 reboot of the film.

“For me to say I enjoyed a script and was so genuinely surprised with how clever it was written and delighted because this hasn’t been done before … that in itself made it really exciting,” Burns explained with an infectious smile.

R.I.P., Marilyn Burns. Our thoughts are with her family and friends during this difficult time.
