• The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has proposed the establishment of professional standards and training requirements for school nutrition professionals.

    According to Deputy Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services Dr. Janey Thornton, these new standards will ensure school nutrition personnel have the training and tools they need to plan, prepare and purchase healthy products to create nutritious meals.

    Thornton says many school nutrition professionals already complete training each year that is similar to what USDA is recommending.
