VH1 often features ‘Movies that Rock’ (often ‘Purple Rain,’ which explains why it trends on Twitter every few weeks), and now the network is in the works to produce their own music-themed movies for TV. The subject of their first project? VH1′s blog says it’s one other than legendary the ’90s R&B trio TLC.

The film will cover all the bases of ‘Waterfalls’ group’s career — which should provide for a great drama. In addition to hit records, the girls — Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez and Rozonda “Chili” Thomas — led tumultuous lives, both individually as a group. T-Boz suffered from sickle-cell anemia throughout her life, resulting in hospitalization — and recently had a brain tumor removed and filed for bankruptcy, while Left Eye burned down her then-boyfriend Andre Rison’s house prior to her tragic death in a car crash in 2002. The group had an embarrassing bankruptcy filing at their peak.

T-Boz and Chili will act as consultants and executive producers of the film, ensuring a quality product (in addition to helping resolve T-Boz’s current economic woes).

In addition to having a great true story to work with, the network is really hedging their bets by hiring Kate Lanier to pen the script for the film. Lanier is famous for writing the script to Tina Turner’s biopic, ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It.’

“The reality of this brings me to tears because I am seeing one of my dreams come to life,” Chili told VH1 in a press release. “I always felt our story had to be told. What makes it even more amazing is having Kate Lanier on board. I remember watching ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ with Lisa, and I knew then whoever wrote that story had to write ours.”

“I’m just overjoyed. Kate Lanier is amazing,” T-Boz quipped. “I’m honored to work with her I love her art. Well here we go on another TLC ride and I can’t wait.” Neither can we!
