As I have a child at Whitney Elementary School, during orientation they presented a new parking plan for their school. Though it may seem confusing upfront, it may be better in the long run. Here is their parking plan.

First of all, the entrance is now the exit and the old exit is now where you enter.

Once there you move east where you can pick up or drop off your kids. There's also a stop sign until it's safe to merge over to exit. The former teacher's parking lot is now designated for parents of kindergartners. I love this idea.

The exit is now right-turn only. You're not allowed to turn left. This will hamper some as they may live east-bound from the exit, but you can exit to the right and turn around at the next street, I suppose. I fear some will turn left anyways and, if that happens often enough, I won't be surprised to see them put a road barricade to prevent it from happening more. So far, though, they're just asking for your assistance to make this as seamless as possible.

I'll be honest, this parking lot has never been very convenient. In time, this could alleviate a lot of the burden of backed-up cars at some times of day. I think it'll work. Time will tell.

While they were presenting this to us, they also mentioned that some would simply park at Apple Valley Dentist next door. There's now a tow truck there waiting for you to park there so they can tow your car as you're not allowed to park there and were never allowed to park there. I, personally, have been guilty of this a couple of times in the past.

What do you think? Do you think it'll work?
