I took my kids to the Selah McDonald's the other day as we had some time to kill. As we watched our kids play, another dad and I struck up a conversation about how we never had anything like what they have now. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but our kids will never know the struggles we had with the playground toys of the 1970s and '80s.

Our kids will never know the sensation of losing a layer of skin sliding down a hot, metal slide in the summer.

Our kids will never know exactly how to move those spring-coil riding toys in our favor.

Our kids will never know what it's like to be up in Mayor McCheese's head, looking out through his teeth.

Our kids will never know what it's like to play on what were basically old tire shavings.

I'm sure I'm leaving out a few things, too, but I can't lie: I wish I could fit in one of those giant play structures without getting stuck. But even though I can't, I loved what I grew up with, too.
