When you're on the highway, or on any street for that matter, and there's a police or sheriff who has someone pulled over, what do you do? The right answer is to give them as much room as possible by getting in the other lane (if there is one) and drive slower. However, many in the past few years haven't and have some some accidents injuring many of our state troopers.

In the past five years, 141 patrol cars have been hit. 51 trooper have also been injured in the past five years all due to other drivers. Washington State Patrol is asking for people to slow down, move left, for emergency lights to increase awareness to the Move Over Law helping everyone.

Approaching Emergency Zones is the “Move Over Law”. It requires that vehicles approaching an emergency zone should proceed with due caution, slow down, and if safe move over, or change lanes.

This goes for police, fire tow trucks and more.

What's more, it's not just a courtisy but as of recently, it's the law punishable of a $214 fine that can't be waived or reduced. In 2015, 4,216 violated the Move Over Law.

With icy conditions coming soon, it's best to be aware of this now before you're too late.
