Due to the rapid increase of inhabitants at the Yakima homeless encampment on 3rd Street and Walnut, the City of Yakima has been forced to tighten the rules for those staying there.

The City of Yakima released a statement today that a new draft of rules has been put into effect to prohibit the use of drugs and/or alcohol,  as well as require that any and all pets to be leashed 24 hours a day and "quiet hours" to bet set from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Persons under 18 are also not allowed to stay there and inhabitants must register with the City and any possessions, including tents or other shelters, must fit within a single stall assigned to each person staying at the encampment.

The new rules also make November 15th, 2016 the dissolution date for the encampment or at the discretion of the City.

Donations for those homeless should only be dropped off at Yakima Neighborhood Health Service Depot (602 E. Yakima Avenue), the Salvation Army (9 S. 6th Avenue), the Union Gospel Mission (1300 N. 1st Street), or Rod’s House (200 S. Naches) to assure proper sorting and distribution.
