Schools across the nation, and right here in Yakima, celebrated Dr. Seuss Day with fun events. Since my daughters go to Whitney elementary school, I can only vouch for what they did.

The day was themed as pajama day as kids were welcome to wear their pajamas to school but didn't have to. They were also encouraged to dress up as their favorite Dr. Seuss character if they chose. Many of the students partipicated.

It started with breakfast in the cafeteria for kids and grown-ups - free of charge thanks to the Whitney Boosters.

From there we were invited to our kid's classrooms to read. It didn't have to be Dr. Seuss, but it kind of made sense if it did. I started in one room with my daughter reading her favorite, Hop on Pop, to my other daughter reading one I, admittedly, haven't read. I Wish That I Had Duck Feet.

From there we were excused back to our jobs or homes. In other words, we didn't have to go home, but we couldn't stay there.

It was a great opportunity to spend time with our kids and keep the family involved. I had a great time.
